窯の中で焼成の際に偶発的に生まれた「破れ壺」。
その名の通り、焼成の過程で器形が大きく変形し、独特の口縁や胴のうねりを生じたもので、躍動感に富んだ造形と、焼成によって生まれた豊かな景色が魅力です。
自然に生まれた力強い造形は、花を入れた際にも不思議なほど調和し、現在では花器としても高い人気を持つものです。
本作は鎌倉時代初期の作。
後世における継ぎや修理もなく、造形・景色ともに優れ、コンディションも良好な佳品です。
破れ壺そのものが極めて入手し難くなった現在、これほど造形、景色、保存状態の三拍子が揃った一作をご覧いただける機会は、今後ますます少なくなっていくものと思われます。

Tokoname Yabure Tsubo | Early Kamakura Period
A rare example of a Tokoname Yabure Tsubo, an unusual form that emerged naturally and unexpectedly during the firing process within the kiln.
The vessel underwent significant deformation during firing, producing a remarkably dynamic silhouette with distinctive undulations around the rim and body. Its powerful form is complemented by rich and expressive firing effects across the surface.
Despite its irregularity, the vessel possesses a remarkable natural harmony. When arranged with flowers, its sculptural form is brought to life, and Tokoname Yabure Tsubo are today highly appreciated as flower vessels.
This example dates to the early Kamakura period (late 12th to early 13th century) and is an exceptional work of Tokoname ware.
There are no later joins, restorations, or repairs, and the vessel remains in excellent condition. The combination of its powerful form, expressive surface, and well-preserved condition makes this a particularly fine example.
Tokoname Yabure Tsubo have become increasingly difficult to acquire, and opportunities to encounter an example of such quality in terms of form, firing effects, and condition are now exceptionally rare.
