市ノ瀬窯 伝世絵唐津水指｜桃山時代
轆轤の技術は高く算盤玉を思わせる数少ない器形に、全面を奔放に波打つように描いた絵付けが印象的な絵唐津水指。
自由闊達に走る筆致と、唐津焼特有の穏やかで静謐な佇まいが見事に調和し、素朴さの中にも凛とした強さを感じさせます。
土味は力強く、長い時を経た伝世品ならではの落ち着いた肌合いと古格を備え、その姿には現代の器にはない、深い時間の積層が感じられます。
また、見込には火間が現れ、景色としての趣を添えるとともに、茶席において水指を取り扱う際にも、"内に秘めた"表情を愉しませてくれることでしょう。

Transmitted-Down E-Karatsu Water Jar (Mizusashi)｜Momoyama Period
A rare and distinctive form reminiscent of an abacus bead, this exceptional E-Karatsu mizusashi is boldly decorated across the entire surface with freely drawn, undulating brushwork.
The spontaneous energy of the painting is beautifully balanced by the quiet, restrained character of Karatsu ware, creating a presence that is at once rustic and remarkably dignified.
Its clay and surface retain the powerful, deeply aged character associated with a treasured piece that has been preserved and handed down through generations. The patina of age gives the vessel a depth and serenity that cannot be found in newly made ceramics.
A subtle himā—an area left partially unglazed by the firing—appears within the interior, adding another layer of visual interest and revealing a more intimate aspect of the vessel when handled and appreciated in the tea ceremony.
Form, clay, decoration, and the beautifully matured surface all come together in harmony. It is a particularly fine example of E-Karatsu, embodying the quiet strength and understated beauty so characteristic of Karatsu ware.
